Did you guess that our shower door fell off and is not re attachable? What you probably didn't guess is that this shower kit is also leaking in a few different places. Every time we seal and patch a spot up a new leak is found.

It has become abundantly clear to us that this shower kit was not properly installed and is a ticking water/mould time bomb.
So this long weekend and into next week we are going to attempt our biggest DIY yet. We're ripping out the shower kit and installing a larger custom shower.

Bonus points for creative use of the clamps.
Did I mention that this is our one and only bathroom in the house? It should be fun times ahead. Wish us luck!

oh no!!! welcome to the bathroom renos club :) can't wait to see your progress. Are you going to use Schluter Kerdi??
I wish you all the luck in the world. This happened to us a few years ago and we are a one bathroom house too. No fun.
Thanks for your good wishes. Fingers crossed all goes well.
NK-We are using the Schulter Kerdi kit. I've been following your progress. Are you guys happy with the kit? Any tips to pass a long?
Ooooh a big undertaking indeed Maggie! Best of luck on it!!
generally, we didn't like the corners and edges. Because you will have multiple layers of kerdi raising your corners, making them uneven and harder to tile.
Installing kerdi is a lot of work, we found that it is easier to install spacial drywall (looks gray on one side and is generally used for shower/tub ceilings, it is a bit more expensive but so great to tile over, now that we're done that step!) and using kerdi just for the corners/edges.
I think we if did this again, we would do the shower floor from scratch, just buy the schluter drain. Put gray drywall on the walls, and use kerdi membrane for the edges (or not). Schluter drain is the best, though. So easy to work with!
Drop me a line!! I'd love to chat this over with you. Any time :) I'd love to hear your experience.
*special drywall. We were told to use it by the awesome guys at HomeDepot, and can't say enough great things about it. Comes in sheets of 32" by 60", easy to take home!
